Below you will find some of our Frequently Asked Questions!
Do I Need Dance Experience To Start?
No! We have classes for the absolute beginner to start dancing with us, no experience necessary!
Do I Have to Wear Heels?
No! Heels are completely optional. Recommended, but not required to take class.
Do You Have Any Non-Heels Classes?
Yes! We have our sneaker class, Jazz Funk, and our contemporary class, Feels N’ Heals.
What Kind of Heels Should I Wear?
When you’re first starting out, it is important to wear heels that hold to your foot via a boot, or a strap. Heeled boots are a great start, and lower heels are best for beginners. Once you get going in your heels journey, you may want to consider investing in a pair of proper dance heels. Our “Shop” page has a list of several heels companies to choose from!
What Else Do I Need To Bring To Class?
A Water Bottle, and kneepads! We do a lot of movement on the floor, and kneepads are incredibly helpful to have an enjoyable, pain-free experience. There are kneepads to borrow at all classes. When you decide to purchase your own, you can find some Amazon links on our “Shop” page, or at your local Sport Chek.
What Do I Wear?
Whatever makes you feel BEST! We jokingly say, “the more you come to class, the less you wear!” — insinuating that folks often get more comfortable and more bold in their clothing choices (think fishnets and bralettes). But sweatpants are still absolutely welcome and encouraged! We want you to feel your sexiest!
Will I Be Filmed?
Students are given the opportunity to film themselves on their own devices, and occasionally I (Desirae) will ask the class if it’s okay if I film the last run of the dance at the end of the class. When people say they’re not comfortable with being on camera, I will ensure not to film them in the video.
What Is The Cancellation Policy?
Classes are non-refundable with less than 12 hours notice.
How Do I Reschedule or Cancel My Classes?
You can reschedule or cancel your classes with more than 12 hours notice by visiting your “My Account” page, or by emailing us at collectiveheeling@gmail.com
What Level should I take if I have some dance experience, by little-to-none Heels Experience?
Intermediate! Our Intermediate level classes are the perfect design for folks with some dance experience, without feeling like they’re being thrown into the deep end of our Advanced Classes.
Where are you located?
Victoria, BC! We have three locations all over Victoria, with our main location being in Esquimalt at VOS (10-744 Fairview Rd), our secondary location being in Langford at Apex West (122-1039 Langford Parkway), and our third location being in Saanich at Dansko (4814 West Saanich Rd). Occasional Pop-Up classes occur in Nanaimo at Vibrant Dance (1969 Boxwood Rd).
Who Teaches the Classes?
All classes are taught by myself, the Owner, Desirae Barkman. Read my bio by visiting the “Meet Desirae” page.
Are You Hiring? Do You Host Guest Teachers?
At this time, I am not looking to expand the teaching roster. Guest Teachers may be considered with sufficient credentials, but our weekly time slots are limited so it is dependent on the circumstances.
